More Malinalco

¡Viva Mexico!

habanero peppers, mango, passion fruit, nopales.

The best meal of my entire stay was nopales con trucha. The trout fillet was garlicky and sandwiched between two sauteed prickly pear paddles.

I regret not buying a salsa pot!

Jacaranda blossoms where everywhere you turned.
One of my favorite things about Malinalco was the pack of pueblo pups roaming around the streets.

Honey suckle also seemed to be growing out of every crevice.

Just when I thought the night could not get any more magical...

They had fireworks!

Then it was time to retire to our hotel. The party began around 4pm and this photo was taken at 4am:)

¡Viva Michaeladas!

A michelada is a delicious beverage made of a giant cerveza mixed with lime juice and a variety of condiments, most preferably tomato/clamato juice, maggi, hot sauce and chili powder. Yes, that is a styrofoam large soup take-out container :)
The rim is coated in a semi firm chili glaze that begins to drip the longer your michelada sits.

Chug it!

Cuauhtinchan Archeological Zone / Cerro de los Idolos

The next morning we woke up to a delicious breakfast of huevos rancheros over with freshly made tortillas. Mmm Mexican breakfasts are the best!

We spent most of the morning basking in the sun. After 5 minutes in the Mexican sun, my skin began to crisp, no joke... so I sought refuge under the shade of this lovely banana tree.

Ani and I decided to hike up to the Cerro de los Idolos with Marta and Ivan. The Aztec archeological site is only a 20 minute walk from the town center of Malinalco. There is a path made up of 426 steps that leads up to the top of the hill.
The path leads right up to the House of the Eagles. This site was primarily used for initiation ceremonies  for the Eagle and Jaguar warriors. The beginning of spring is a popular time to visit the site. Many people make pilgrimages from all around central Mexico.
