Cuauhtinchan Archeological Zone / Cerro de los Idolos

The next morning we woke up to a delicious breakfast of huevos rancheros over with freshly made tortillas. Mmm Mexican breakfasts are the best!

We spent most of the morning basking in the sun. After 5 minutes in the Mexican sun, my skin began to crisp, no joke... so I sought refuge under the shade of this lovely banana tree.

Ani and I decided to hike up to the Cerro de los Idolos with Marta and Ivan. The Aztec archeological site is only a 20 minute walk from the town center of Malinalco. There is a path made up of 426 steps that leads up to the top of the hill.
The path leads right up to the House of the Eagles. This site was primarily used for initiation ceremonies  for the Eagle and Jaguar warriors. The beginning of spring is a popular time to visit the site. Many people make pilgrimages from all around central Mexico.
